Andreas Scholl, countertenor

King’s College Choir
Stephen Cleobury conductor
A double celebration of Britten’s centenary and the Feast of St
Cecilia. Andreas Scholl returns to King’s for his debut performance
of Britten’s moving cantata with renowned tenor James Gilchrist.
Purcell’s joyful works, which comprise a wide variety of vocal soloists and obbligato instruments, were much admired by Britten. The
countertenor soloist features strongly throughout and the programme includes one of the great countertenor numbers - Sound the trumpet.
“It might be a golden age of the countertenor, but few can equal
the sheer beauty of tone and dramatic instinct displayed by
Andreas Scholl” BBC Music Magazine
